Sabine's Gull - Species Range Map
This map thanks to http://sdakotabirds.com
Map created with ArcGIS. Range map information for each species obtained from Ridgely, R.S., T.F. Allnutt, T. Brooks, D.K. McNicol, D.W. Mehlman, B.E. Young, and J.R. Zook. 2003. Digital Distribution Maps of the Birds of the Western Hemisphere, version 1.0. NatureServe, Arlington, Virginia, USA.
This is the continually evolving eBird range map for Sabine's Gull, as of June 19. 2012....
Note that adults have yellow tip on bill (as in this photo below by Glenn Bartley), as do all the birds seen on the Cape this season (and a dark gray hood during breeding season). Juveniles lack the yellow bill tip but have black at end of tail (as in the photo above by Jim Almond). In ALL plumages the upper wing surfaces have that dramatic black and white pied pattern (three triangles, black/white/gray, but not the black M pattern of Kittiwakes), the bill is black (plus yellow tip on adults), and the tail is somewhat forked/notched.
